Apples against Alzheimer’s

ApplesA recent study by the Research Center of Cellular Neurobiology and Neurodegeneration at the University of Massachusetts, found that drinking apple juice could reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

The study is published in this month’s issue of the Journal of Alzheimer’s disease, is being hailed as a medical breakthrough by experts.

The researchers gave mice the equivalent of two cups of apple juice daily for one month and discovered that, those who drank apple juice produced less beta-amyloid, a small protein that damages normal cells in the brain and form plaques that found in the brains of people affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Study author Thomas B. Shea says in its conclusions that, “we recommend regular consumption of apple juice, since not only can help keep the mind in its best performance, but may also be able to delay the key aspects of the disease Alzheimer’s and improve therapeutic approaches.

The researchers did not identify the specific component that is contained in the apple juice, as head of the curative effect.

“These findings provide new evidence linking nutrition and genetics as risk factors for age-related neuro-degeneration,” the researchers say.
