Surgery may be, depending on the time needed to spend at the hospital:

Ambulatory surgery

The patient spends the first hours after surgery in the hospital until they are discharged to home, once recovered, the same day of surgery. More and more operations are performed in outpatient surgical procedure (inguinal hernia, hemorrhoids, breast nodules, cataracts, etc.).

Inpatient

The patient was admitted and spent in hospital at least overnight. It may be short-stay surgery (income of 24-48 hours). This is a good alternative when you can not ambulatory surgery for the patient’s condition or for organizational reasons. What to do with the regular medication?

Normally, the anesthesiologist will see the patient several days before surgery, and advise you about the medication you may take in the days before surgery. In general, you can continue with regular medication until the day of surgery, with several important exceptions:

- Oral anticoagulants (Sintrom) should be discontinued 3-4 days before surgery. where it is essential to continue with the anticoagulant heparin should be administered to the patient until surgery.

- Antiplatelet activity of platelets, such as acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin, add, Tromalyt, etc.) And others (Persantine, Tiklid, etc.). Should be stopped 7-10 days before surgery.

What should you bring to the hospital?

The patient was admitted the evening before or the day of intervention, if not require any special preparation. Bring:

- Family history and reports of previous episodes, films

- Medication usual

- Names, addresses and phone numbers of close relatives

- In general, provide pajamas, but should lead gown and slippers.

- Tools for cleaning.

How is the preparation in the hours before the surgery?

- Usually provide sedative medication the night before to promote rest.

- The patient should shower, and the surgical area is shaved.

- Depending on the type of intervention, the patient will receive antibiotics to prevent infection, and medication to prevent clot formation in veins and prevent gastritis and stomach bleeding.

Before any transaction, whether inpatient or outpatient basis, is necessary for both physician and patient to prepare the intervention to be carried out:

Clinical History

The surgeon must make the query a patient’s medical history, asking information on the underlying condition, general health status and may accompany other diseases, medical and surgical history, drug allergies and current medication. Then record the results of physical examination of the patient.

Preoperative

Depending on the type of intervention and the patient’s condition, it will take a pre-intervention studies. In general tend to perform blood tests, coagulation, electrocardiogram and chest radiograph.Information

The surgeon should inform the patient in a clear and easy on the diagnosis, what the intervention, what are the most frequent complications, risks, custom, on possible consequences and whether other treatment options.

Consent

As a final step, the patient signs a document that expresses its satisfaction with the information received, and you consent to the surgery to be performed as specified.

What do the surgeon and the anesthesiologist nee to know about you?

- If the patient is allergic to any medications.

- If the patient is taking medication at the moment (especially anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs in the blood and corticosteroids).

- If the patient smokes or has smoked, and if you have the lung damaged by snuff (bronchitis or emphysema).

- If the patient has or has had high blood pressure.

- If the patient has or has had high blood sugar.

- If the patient has or has had bronchial asthma.

- If the patient has had chest pain or angina pectoris, or previous myocardial infarction.

- If the patient is anesthetized before, and the problems that might arise.

- If the patient has had surgery before, and what kind of intervention.

- If the patient accepts the transfusion of blood or, if necessary.

How will the anesthesia?

The anesthesiologist and the patient will be discussed with the type of anesthesia is expected to use in his speech. Depending on this and every patient can be:

- Local anesthesia: anesthesia only the area where the incision will

- Regional Anesthesia: epidural or spinal anesthesia is the lower body, approximately from the waist down.

- General anesthesia, the patient is completely asleep, and often necessary to keep breathing through endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation.

Wright’s team found that the unnecessary use of analysis in 1,402 patients in two years generated direct spending of more than $ 418,000. Moreover, Wright suspected in other types of surgeries also ask excessive preoperative analysis. Each year, the health system spends 3,000 million U.S. dollars on such analysis. “An enormous amount of evidence suggests that the majority of preoperative tests would be unnecessary,” they wrote in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology.

The guidelines on the proper use of the tests have been around for years, but it was unclear how doctors apply. The team reviewed the medical records of women with gynecological operations at the site between 2005 and 2007.

The authors found that 95 percent of the 1,402 patients had completed the recommended preoperative analysis, but that 90 percent indicated at least one test unnecessary, according to the guidelines of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) . Neither the 749 urine tests, the 407 liver function tests or analysis of 1,046 blood clotting factors were necessary, so did 99 percent of the 427 chest radiographs requested.

Only 36 percent of the electrocardiograms and 29 percent of full blood count was adjusted to the guidelines “based on the evidence.” Recommendations vary depending on the patient and the surgery, said Wright. For example, the guidelines do not provide presurgical analysis for a woman of 35 years who will be joined by the horns, but for a 65 year old patient with diabetes and heart disease which is preparing for a surgical removal of an ovarian tumor.

“Patients should have a prior conversation with the doctor about proper preparation for intervention, so they can make an informed joint decision,” concluded the author.

It is important to mention that “Hyaluronic acid is reabsorbed by 80% while the fat is absorbed only 50%, which means that the remaining amount on the lips”, says surgeon.

However, this procedure does not apply in all people, as in the case of people with diabetes must be extra careful not to suffer decompensation.

Nor should it be applied to individuals who are taking anti-inflammatory, since before the product can be reabsorbed. And if you are suffering from a herpes virus infection at the lip, you should wait until the infection disappears.

Another technique used to thicken the lips is to remove a little skin in the form of wedge just under the nose, lip edges joining and then returning to close technique is known as lifting. This technique makes teaching more lip up the inside of it.

Thus, the labial mucosa is concentrated on the inside, getting higher and lifting effect of the lip. This practice reduces the lip and for this reason can only be used in people who have a sufficient thickness of the lips.

Moreover, if you’re willing to go through surgery, can opt for a very economical option as the use of gloss and lipsticks that are supposed to provide fleshy lips. However, even with these we must be careful as not all deliver what they promise.

We should point out that experts glare or pencils that contains niacin, cinnamon, or mint caffeine can produce a temporary swelling effect due to the dilation of blood vessels that they produce.

Another alternative to increase the volume of the lips is to use grafts from the patient’s own fat and will use temporary products, such as hyaluronic acid.

In general, liposuction can be obtained by any part of the body where there is sufficient accumulation of fat and subsequently used to fill in the lips.

Thus, the rendered fat will be in direct contact with the adjacent tissue, facilitating rapid integration and the fat remains in place.

This procedure is an optimal method, because it does not add foreign substances, promotes skin rejuvenation and lasts several years, obtaining also a natural effect with no major contraindications.

On the other hand, injections of hyaluronic acid, is another technique used, since it is a molecule naturally present has the capacity to absorb and retain large amounts of water on the skin.

We should mention that when you are young are provided with a large amount of this molecule, but from age 40 production is reduced by half, and 60 years, only less than 10%. Thus, the new generation hyaluronic acid is the most used, since it is synthetic and lasts up to one year.

The procedure consists of a 30-minute treatment. This intervention does not require hospitalization or passage under the knife, but can be done in the doctor’s office.

For about 15 years, have artificial lips has become fashionable due to two main causes have thin lips, or because with age oucrre retraction of the gums and lips then turn inward.

According to the surgeon “unfortunately, for many years the materials used are not reabsorbed, so hardened and entrenched.”

If these materials are hardened and entrenched the solution was sought to remove the repentant. After the age of silicon, which is now being done is to remove a small part of the body and put it on the lips.

A group of U.S. scientists has developed a new technique of long-term, based on the use of muscle grafts in question and the overlying tissue.

In this sense, is generally a small sample, a strip of muscle and connective tissue of the upper neck. In this regard, you can vary the amount of muscle function desired lip augmentation you want to achieve.

Then, practice a small incision in the corner of each side of the mouth and a cannula is inserted under the skin, where you insert the strip of muscle (sternocleidomastoid) removed.
